The INTERGROWTH-21st project
The International Fetal and Newborn Growth Consortium for the 21st Century, or INTERGROWTH-21st, was the first global, multidisciplinary project led by the Oxford Maternal and Perinatal Health Institute.
The primary aim of the INTERGROWTH-21st Project was to study growth, health and development from early fetal life to 2 years of age in low-risk populations of mothers and children with optimal health and nutrition so as to produce prescriptive standards of fetal growth, newborn size and early child neurodevelopment to complement the existing WHO Child Growth Standards.
The Project has produced prescriptive, international standards of fetal growth; newborn size and body composition; 2-year neurodevelopmental (cognition, motor, language and behaviour) outcomes; and postnatal growth of preterm infants.
This website provides clinicians and researchers access to the INTERGROWTH-21st international standards. This package is comprised of new, globally-validated standards and practical training resources.
These standards are paired with an expanding Training Toolkit and a rich body of literature on our methods.
