Implementing clinical interventions within maternal health programmes
Safe and effective fective interventions exist to prevent and treat the major causes of maternal mortality and morbidity which are: postpartum haemorrhage, sepsis, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, obstructed labour and unsafe abortion. To successfully introduce and adopt evidence-based clinical interventions within maternal health programmes, integrated care modalities, a functioning health system, the policy environment and legal and cultural factors have to be considered. An enhanced knowledge base for implementation is also required. The evidence-based clinical interventions for prevention and treatment of obstetric complications are detailed.
